HATTIESBURG, Miss. - No. 16 UCF avenged their series opening loss last night with a 15-4 drilling of Southern Miss Saturday afternoon at Pete Taylor Park.

"College baseball is a game of momentum and once UCF got it, things steamrolled from there," head coach Corky Palmer said.

No. 16 UCF (20-2, 1-1 CUSA) scored four runs in the fourth inning and seven in the sixth inning to break the game wide open and cruise to a 15-4 victory,

Southern Miss starting pitcher David Clark (2-2) lasted only four innings surrendering five hits and seven runs while walking four and striking out five.

The Southern Miss bullpen could not put out the fire either, as Wade Weathers did not record an out and allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits. JR Ballanger allowed two runs, one earned, on a hit in one and two-thirds of an inning. Houston Brown pitched his longest career outing, lasting two and a third innings and giving up three runs on five hits.

At the plate Southern Miss scattered eight hits, three in the ninth inning.

The Golden Eagles scored three runs in the sixth inning without the benefit of a hit or a Knights error with five walks and a strikeout/wild pitch in the inning.

Bo Davis was the only Southern Miss player with multiple hits, he was two-for-five. Brian Dozier extend his hit streak to eight games with a double in the eighth inning.

The rubber game of the series will be played tomorrow at 1:00.

"Tomorrow is a big game for us, before we have to go on the road next weekend," Palmer added.
