AMY BERMAN (SOFTBALL 1999-2000 )
Shortstop for the Lady Eagles and Coach Lu Harris in 1999 and 2000 with the team recording a 115-22 record
Among her many accolades, she earned Conference USA First Team all-league honors
Berman was a 1999 First-team Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American and a third-team member in 2000
Member of the NFCA All-South Region team in 1999 and 2000
Owns career-batting average of .417 and season average of .456
Owns the single-season record for most homeruns and doubles
Helped lead the Lady Eagles to the College World Series in 1999 and 2000
Named to the Southern Miss Legends Club in 2005.
SAM DEJARNETTE (FOOTBALL 1982-84)
One of the most prolific running backs in Southern Miss history
Three-year letterwinner at the tailback position
Set school record with 304-yard rushing game against Florida State in 1982
Finished his career with 2,908 yards, fourth best in school history
All-South Independent and honorable mention All-America in 1982
Had 11, 100-yard plus rushing games in his career.
LARRY ECUYER (FOOTBALL 1962-64)
Three-year letterwinner at center and linebacker, and started at center in 1963 and 1964
A smart, intelligent player who used his speed and quickness in addition to his physical tools to be successful
Considered on of the strongest players on the team and his competitive spirit made him one of the team's leaders.
RICKY FLOYD (FOOTBALL 1978-81)
Four-year letterman as a tailback and kick returner
Rushed for 1,079 years and 18 touchdowns in his career
Finished with 109 career punts returns, second most in school history
Averaged 8.33 yards a punt return and returned two for touchdowns
Had 28 career kickoff returns for an 18.96 average.
KENNY GLENN (TRACK 1987-90)
Three-year letterwinner as a sprinter for the Golden Eagles
Two-time NCAA All-American indoors in the 55-meter dash
Was the first Southern Miss athlete to participate in the NCAA Indoor Championships, competing in the 55-meter dash
Just missed qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 100-meter dash by .01 seconds
Won two Metro Conference indoor titles in the 55-meter dash
Owns the third-fastest time in school history in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
DERREK HAMILTON (BASKETBALL 1984-1988)
Four-year letterman who earned All-Metro Conference honors in 1987-88
Finished his career with 1,445 points, 13th best in school history
Had 689 rebounds in his career
Averaged 19.1 points and 7.1 rebounds as a senior
Member of the 1987 NIT championship team
A third round selection in the 1988 NBA Draft by New Jersey.
VINSON 'BILL' SULLIVAN (FOOTBALL 1957-58)
Standout two-way tackle during the 1957 and 1958 football seasons
Nickname was "Billy Goat"
Key ingredient of the 1957 team that finished 8-2 and played in the Tangerine Bowl
Also played a major role on the 1958 squad that captured the UPI College Division National Championship
Was a strong and determined player, who used his size and strength to make important contributions
Part of two teams that won 17 of 19 games he played in.
DR. SHELBY F. THAMES (UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT, 2002-07)
Took office May 1, 2002, as the eighth President of The Univeristy of Southern Mississippi continuing an illustrious career of 41 years of service at Southern Miss
Served as chair of the Department of Polymer Science, Dean of the College of Science and Technology, Vice President for Administration and Regional Campuses, and Executive Vice President
Among his numerous honors and awards include designation as the Distinguished University Research Professor of the Department of Polymer Science
Recipient of the first distinguished professorship at Southern Society of Coatings Technology
1996 Southern Miss Alumni Association Continuous Service Award
1998 induction into the Southern Miss Alumni Hall of Fame
2002 R&D Person of the Year by Modern Paint and Coatings Magazine
Currently serves on the board of directors for Conference USA and the Mississippi Technology Alliance.
